Tor Paterno - Canon 20D + Tokina 12-24 + Ikelite + Hartenberger 250TTL + Nikonos 3 pin cable

It's been a while that my Canon 20D with the Ikelite underwater housing was sleeping waiting to find a way to use the Hartemberger 250TTL strobe. Finally I got the way and yesterday I finally removed the satisfaction of trying this camera kit. For me, that I generally use uw compact cameras (Nikon P5100 with Fantasea housing and Canon G10 with WP-DC28 housing with the strobe Olympus UFL-1), using this set so impressive in terms of volume and in terms of weight, gave me some concern. But I said, if the other people do it, I can do it too, or not? :-) The camera, equipped with a Tokina 12-24, has been used in manual mode with the lens fixed on the minimum focal (12*1.6=19.2mm real focal lenght). The strobe was used in manual mode too, and could not be otherwise because the Ikelite housing allows the TTL mode only with the strobe of the same brand. The strobe was used with the switch of power level set to the minimum level. Hartenberger declare a guide number of 22 and an adjustable decreasing powers of 5 steps (from -0 to -5 stops). The following photos were simply converted from RAW with Canon DPP 3.9 with no other post-production process. This gives an idea of the quality of photos you can get a semi-professional D-SLR. I do not know the quality of other domes on the market, but this seems really satisfactory Ikelite 5503.55 expecially in the edge. Underwater this Kit comes really handy, much more than a compact camera, and the weight magically disappear. With the compact camera, the strobe and the arms tend to move far to the left and the center of gravity down, but this does not happen with the Hartenberger because of its volume, which increases its buoyancy. The controls are simple and very intuitive. However, for all, not all the cables Ikelite to Nikonos V are good for this. Hartenberger strobes have the Nikonos V standard bulkhead but all the pin are fixed not like other brands like Seacam. So, when you want to buy strobes and housing of different brand, pay attention to get the right sync-cable.
